@Brian Girard Hi Brian, No VPN, in my opinion, will ever be 100 percent secure. Hopefully, NordVPN will now be more on their toes about breaches and more transparent to their subscribers. They lost a lot of business with this breach fiasco. But, I have decided to stick with them for now. Their 24/7 live chat support and decent servers are a plus. Also, I am suggesting that you run other (free or paid versions) of these A/V programs in the background whilst NordVPN is running: Zemana AntiMalware; Glarysoft Malware Hunter and Norton's 'Safe Web' browser plugin. And, also run CCleaner right after you close your browse. I hope this helped you out. Best, Jeff

@Lynk They probably got physical access to the server in the datacenter seems the most obvious and the easiest way today ... most consumer (cheap) vpn's don't own or fully control their own hardware and rely on access control provided by (big cheap) third party data centers. That's your "military grade security" these companies sell a product which provides sufficient security for most client’s. Like hiding small cyber-crime, pirating software etc. or helps paranoid people from being tracked directly. Their business models prioritize profit over client security. Only a few do it the other way or balance them but they don't appeal to the public because they are not for normal consumers or unknown to them and can be, (very) expensive. While not advertising for a consumer VPN provider perfect privacy seems to be the most secure when it comes to physical access , general security and transparency .They provide encrypted cascaded connections as a form off physical access protection. But they rely on third party data centers to do the rest

For the love of ****, I've been saying this for over a year now. All you need to do is run command prompt and see when you connect to NORD let's say Panama, the IP you're connected to is actually in CALIFORNIA. I reversed searched and found the IP belonged to a big black random building. So I was connected to Panama...with data going through this building, to me.

So why exactly do you and others think that a VPN is ‘necessary’ in today’s age? Because they really aren’t unless you’re a specific type of user. Password managers are necessary for extra safety, but why VPNs? I’m genuinely intrigued as to people’s reasoning

@JayzTwoCents i understand your frustration with Nord not being forthright about what happened, and rightfully so, but you may be blowing this incident out of proportion. The severity/impact of the breach isn't known by Nord users, but from the way you describe it, it sounds minimal (hopefully). There also isn't much Nord users could've done after-the-fact that would've mitigated any unknown damages. You seem to know a lot more about this stuff than I do, so I'm not gonna try and say you're in the wrong here. All I'm saying is that it's probably not as big a deal as you're making it out to be in this video.

For over a month. GGWP. If a company like NordVPN doesn't know the own flaws in the business model, maybe you should've listened to me when I first said VPNs were a scam. You really think the system can subpoena a ISP but not a VPN.... laughable really. remember when napster and other p2p software made it so you could do things deemed illegal by the state, but claimed it was up to the individual. Guess who got it..... BOTH PARTIES. Wake up people and stop paying someone to essentially steal. No one uses VPN to protect their privacy, they do it because they can download illegal without issues of someone knowing you did it. Just like no one buys a bong to smoke tobacco out of. We know what you're doing. Just admit it. Cause i don't care either way. As a jury, I'll find anyone not guilty for a non criminal offense towards your fellow man. But dont pretend to be something you're not. And this was clear cut to me from the start as a scam.
