The trunot make sense when you take into account the tower being the realm that links all the other realms together . There’s things in the multiverse that can’t be explained in one world alone ..if that makes sense .

I started out reading Dr Sleep for my first Stephen King book... I like it. It's a sequel you can read without having to read the first book. I understand most of it, I just missed out on some of the references. I ended up watching the movie (even though its different from the book) and understood the references afterwards.

omg I loved Dr. Sleep! I think it was amazing the way King was able to expand everything up to the true knot and I loved being with Holllaran again. Those little mental boxes worked out in the end!

A great read. King has done it again. The True Knots began as people with paranormal abilities hundreds of years ago. They are dwindling in numbers and travel in caravans like gypsies. Now they exist in worn out bodies only sustained by “steam” which is the soul taken from a dying person with paranormal abilities. They found the steam taken was more powerful of their victim was tortured to death. Can't have a suspense novel without bad guys and the True Knot fills this need very well. The character of Dan Torrence is credible and deep background is given of his life after the Overlook Hotel. He suppressed the shining ability with alcohol and drugs which left him an addict with a wrecked life. This is about the salvation of Danny and addicts will recognize the reality of his existence.

I came across Doctor Sleep on a quiet seaside holiday in Co Wexford and was transfixed by it. I much preferred it to The Shining, maybe because it's focus was the characters' interior life for the most part and the power of that. Something that I have only previously found done well in Scandinavian crime fiction, maybe because generally their culture is more introverted. I found it so compelling and powerful that when I finished it I didn't bring it home. I didn't want it in my

i know i'm years later to this review but, i have to say, this book was amazing]! right now i'm on my third read of it and everytime i found something new. I just love Abra and her realtionship with Dan. The true knot was really well done and it scared me a few times. To be honest, i never quite got why the shinning was so liked, i read it once and never found the need to read it again. Anyway, i hope the movie is great, at least the casting of Dan couldn't be more awesome]!

I really enjoyed Doctor Sleep. Although, I didn’t like all the nicknames The True Knot had for all their members (I feel like it made MOST of their members disposable) I still like them as a group and thought it was a great story! Can’t wait for the movie!

My best short review of Dr. Sleep is: Abra Stone as Boo, Billy Freeman as Mike Wazowski, Daniel Torrance as James P. Sullivan, Rose The Hat as Henry J. Waternoose III.

I think the problem with this book is that it was marketed as a sequel to the Shining, when in reality it only shares the same protagonist. It gives a closure on Dan´s story, but thematically it´s different, which is why a lot of people did not like Doctor Sleep.

The concept of the True Knot is great and the setup of that conflict combined with Dan’s story is very captivating. The climax/conclusion to the book was very underwhelming as someone hoping The Overlook would factor more into the finale. Good book, but it did not meet the high expectations set by The Shining.

i felt the parts of Dan getting of the sauce was bueituflly written because i new alot of people who struggled with addiction some made in in life some lost there lives to it. the theme of the books that was important to me is we spend our lives geating over the things that fucked us up as kids i see that in alot of king books its true in my life kind now i didnt have a dad that tried to kill me nore do i have mind reading powers but i can relate to Dan a littel

never read the shinning but i loved Dr. sleep to me it shows Danny child hood scars come back to haunt him i felt like it had a strong Hero's journey for Danny and the little girl the the true note come for the girl i felt like it got really compelling i like how king king of humanizes them we see there evil side and there sympathetic side also i don't mind the true note cause i met people like that in life people who suck your steam not live for ever

  34. Patrick Tilton

    Patrick Tilton4 muaj më parë

The 'True Knot' group is, I think, a metaphor for Pedophiles in general -- they target children and feed off their energy, i.e. their pre-sexualized innocence. The predators obviously don't care that they are ruining the lives of the most innocent among us -- just as Rose the Hat and her group don't care about the suffering they've caused for the most selfish of ends. The True Knot doesn't (as far as I can recall) subject their child victims to sexual torment, but what they do is analogous to that.

I gave your review a thumbs up because it was well reasoned, and a valid opinion...but I totally disagree. Loved Doctor Sleep; it was fantastic reconnecting with Danny, and meeting Abra, and I thought The True Knot were a great addition to the Shining mythos.

I absolutely agree with you on the sequel being unnecessary. I mean, good for those who feel it fits in perfectly, but to me it just feels like (as you said) something completely different. Believe me I tried, I tried to MAKE myself like it :D But it just doesn't work, not liking it frustrates me so much, because it makes me feel excluded from all of the craze and excitement about a "Shining" revival of some sort. To me this one actually has more of a "Stand" vibe, rather than a "Shining" vibe. "The Shining" is my favorite novel (and movie, despite all the differences). I've read it over 7 times. To me "Doctor Sleep" just feels too overpowered and too different, which is not to say that different is bad, but it just doesn't work for me.

  40. Emily Cait

    Emily Cait3 muaj më parë

I respect your opinion that you liked it but I think everything she said is spot on it tries to be a fantasy in not A horror novel and honestly we had changes so much and tries to rely on the original at the same time so much I really wouldn't recommend it to it hardcore Stephen kings fan because they would be expecting what they've always expected from his novels in my opinion and I'm actually a hardcore Stephen kings fan that's why I come to that conclusion and I know I drop this book I read a lot of it but then I just decided to drop it

Finished the book yesterday. It won't surprise me if he got the idea from a Grimm's Fairy tale. Bad guys after kids ? Ok. Honestly, i enjoyed the book and i'm happy he didn't try to overclass Shining. That's impossible. The story was weird, but i like weird fiction so that makes the deal. I just think it was a little to long.
